HAPPY BIRTHDAY EKTA KAPOOR: How life changed for the new mom

On Ekta Kapoor’s birthday, we take a look at what the producer said about living life as a new mother.

Ekta Kapoor welcomed son Ravie Kapoor via surrogacy in the beginning of this year. Since then, the television czarina’s life has naturally undergone a lot of changes. On her birthday, we take a look at what the producer said about living life as a new mother:

Mom’s guilt

In an interview with film critic Anupama Chopra, Ekta talked about how every mother tends to battle a sense of guilt.  “I have a lot of guilt even now. I don’t know how it just comes. I think the first thing you feel as a mother is guilt. I don’t think anyone will say that so openly. I am at work, I am feeling guilty; I am at home, there’s a lot of guilt that I am not completing a lot of things that I used to normally do. So, it’s like you are only dealing with various kinds of guilt,” she had said.

Life as a working mother

Balancing parenting and professional life can be challenging for working mothers. Ekta talked about how she is managing the same and said, “Currently, life is all about spending as much time as possible with my son. These days, I try and leave the office earlier than usual. I bring Ravie to the office frequently and he spends time with my team. I have a huge support system in my mother and my team, so whenever I get busy with meetings, they keep him entertained. He is only three-months-old, but he has made friends with my colleagues and it may sound unrealistic, but he recognises people at work.”

Opening a creche

Having become a mother herself, the producer has now opened a creche at her office. “I have set up a creche in my office. Even when my son grows older, the creche will continue, because it is important for working mothers to be around their babies. In fact, I should have built it in my office a long time ago. I regret not having done that earlier,” she said.

90’s Bollywood ki super favourite Lolo is Back!!!

90’s Bollywood sweetheart Karishma Kapoor aka Lolo, is all set to return to acting after a long break. It’s been over seven years since the audience saw actress Karisma Kapoor lighting up the screens with her high on energy and impactful performances. She says she chose not to do full-fledged roles in films for a while as she wanted to be at home with her young children.

But now the actress is back in the saddle in a different avatar and on a new platform. She will be seen in ALTBalaji’s upcoming web series Mentalhood, directed by Karishma Kohli.

On why she picked ALTBalaji’s Mentalhood, she shared: “The entire show is based on motherhood, the ups and downs, high and lows and all the various emotions of being a mom.” Karisma plays the character of Meira Sharma — a small town mother trying to navigate through this jungle of ‘Mumbai momzilaas’.

“She is a mom, who has a blog where she shares her emotions. Even though she is old fashioned, she is today’s woman,” she said. This is her first project on a digital platform.

“I have been lucky enough to have such a wonderful career and I have done a variety of roles. This is something different for me…a different platform. I have been a radio jockey also. I like trying out different things,” said the National Award winner, who had starred on a TV show titled Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny as well.

Mentalhood will showcase the topsy-turvy ride of the various kinds of mothers that exist and how they manoeuvre their way through unreasonable expectations to raise their children. For her, her mother and actress Babita is the strongest.

“She has given me and sister (Kareena) the strength and the grounding. We have learnt a lot from her. She gave us really good values like to respect our family, to value money, to work hard and be sincere and be good human beings. These things go in a long way. These mould you as a person,” she said.
