Amyra Dastur: Enjoyed pressure of working with Rajkummar Rao

Amyra Dastur plays a business-savvy Gujrati girl, an assistant to Boman Irani’s character in Made In China

Set to reunite with Rajkummar Rao for the second time after Judgementall Hai Kya, Made In China actor Amyra Dastur says it’s easy to get overshadowed by the much-acclaimed actor if an artiste doesn’t “bring on their A-Game”. “Seeing a fine actor like Raj play two distinct roles across films was fun. I enjoy the pressure of being surrounded by actors like Boman Irani and Raj, because it makes me perform to the best of my ability.”

Dastur plays a business-savvy Gujrati girl, an assistant to Irani’s character, who Rao — a desperate businessman — approaches to make a sale of his magic soup. Given that like Irani, Dastur is also a Parsi, she admits her family members were thrilled to hear of their collaboration. “My family has always admired him. My community honours him. They weremore excited about this film than they have been of my past offerings. His comic timing is truly worth watching.”

When Vardhi met Watsa Boman Irani and Made in China director Mikhil Musale met veteran sexologist Dr Mahinder Watsa to help prep for the actor’s role in their film

Made in China, Dinesh Vijan’s next production venture releasing this Diwali, has gathered tremendous steam and thus developed some serious anticipation among audiences after the successful reception of the trailer and the three songs. Produced by Maddock Films in association with Jio Studios, Made in China is a celebration of the spirit of entrepreneurship and a never say die attitude via the story of a small time Gujarati businessman from Ahmedabad.

The film stars Rajkummar Rao as the leading man – Raghu Mehta. Playing the character of Raghu’s partner in his business venture – Sexologist Dr Vardhi. As prep for his role Bman and director Mikhil Musale met several professionals to understand nuances of the character. The most relevant material came from renowned sexologist and columnist Dr Mahinder Watsa. Watsa is a Desi Pop Culture Icon famous for his witty, quirky, no nonsense, sometimes sassy and always helpful replies to problems that patrons write in with for his Q&A column in the Mumbai Mirror.

Mikhil, who researched the subject and wrote the script of Made in China, says, “Dr Watsa was so honest, experienced and articulate. He’s been working in this field since the ’50s and his vast knowledge, whether clinical, psychological or societal was immensely helpful.”

The debutant director admits how surprised him and Boman were on learning about the kind of queries posed to the 96-year-old veteran sexologist. “Sex is a subject people are the most confused about. Even though there’s so much information available online and it is discussed widely on the internet, a lot of people continue to be misled by incorrect information. Boman and I were shocked to hear that people still ask things as bizarre as – if a man and woman masturbate together can lead to pregnancy? Some of the queries have even inspired a few instances and dialogues in our film. It’s surprising how inhibited we are about the subject of sex given that we are a country of 1.3 billion. That’s one of the reasons why we made this film. The issue needs to be addressed but in an entertaining yet sensitive manner” says Mikhil.

Produced by Maddock Films in association with Jio Cinemas, Made in China also stars Mouni Roy, Sumeet Vyas, Paresh Rawal and Gajraj Rao and is set to release this Diwali.

JudgeMentall Hai Kya & Jabariya Jodi Producer – Shaailesh R Singh Feels Controversies Don’t Bring Audience To The Theatres

In a career spanning over a decade, prominent film producer, Shaailesh R Singh has gained immense popularity for his association with content driven cinema. The independent producer has made several films, all of which have been hailed from all quarters.

Now the seasoned producer has two upcoming films – JudgeMentall Hai Kya and Jabariya Jodi, which have created quite a buzz and are eagerly awaited by movie buffs. That’s not all Singh has also kickstarted his next project Hurdang.

Speaking about his journey in filmdom, Singh said, “I have produced around 16 films, out of which 10 have been helmed by new directors. As an independent producer, what draws me to a film is just the story, nothing else. Content should have substance, whether it is a commercial or an independent film. The characters need to be relatable.”

Further throwing light on how content has become the king, Singh added, “Today the audience has access to good content. They don’t want to see a substandard product. There was a time, when, if a film didn’t have superstars, people wouldn’t want to watch it, but now things have changed. People will watch a good film in theatres no matter who’s in it. Of course, stars are an added advantage as they will give you a great opening, but eventually even they can’t save a bad film.”

In fact, the talented producer also shed light on the fact that controversies no longer bring an audience to the theatres. Speaking about the recent controversies revolving around his upcoming film JudgeMentall Hai Kya, Singh said, “I don’t think that the belief that ‘any publicity is good publicity’ works today. Controversies don’t bring audience to the theatres.”

Well, we couldn’t agree more with that wisdom.

While Bobby and Keshav engage in oneupmanship with their own versions of truth, the audience is thrown into a quandary over whom to trust.

Nandita Roy & Shiboprosad Mukherjee Add One More Lively Song – ‘Mashima Hitler’, To Gotro’s Album

It is not just the content-rich films based on human relationships that the talented filmmaker duo – Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee are known for. The versatile filmmakers are also renowned for the varied musical palette of all their films. Their upcoming film, the hotly-anticipated Gotro, is no different.

After winning hearts with the melodious recreation of Rabindra sangeet – ‘Neel Digante’, and the peppy mood uplifting ‘Rangabati’, the makers have dropped another impressive number from the film – ‘Mashima Hitler’

Picturised on film’s protagonist Mukti Debi, essayed by the talented Anashua Majumdar, ‘Mashima Hitler’, has a street-style flavour to it. The song gives an interesting insight into Mukti Debi’s character. Mukti Debi is a well-educated woman, who has some very strict rules and policies about her house – Gobindo Dham, because of which she has earned the moniker – Hitler. The song is about Mukti Debi and her quirks, which has frustrated everyone, including the caretaker of the house – Tariq Ali, played by Nigel Akkara. After playing the lead role in ‘Mukherjee Dar Bou’ under Windows Production, Biswanath Basu is seen matching his steps to the tunes of ‘Mashima Hitler’.

While Anindya Chattopadhyay has done a great job with the composition of this lively track, ‘Mashima Hitler’ is brought to life in the vivacious voice of Babul Supriyo, his first song after becoming Union minister for the second time. This song is a new addition to the list of splendid numbers sung by Babul Supriyo.
Gotro is based on a social issue and tries to remind us of the importance of humanity over religion through a heart-warming story.

Like all Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee films, Gotro is produced by Windows Production. The film will hit the screens in August on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami.

Kanagana Ranaut – Rajkummar Rao ask you to shave the opinions and come be Judgementall on July 26th !

The makers of JudgeMentall Hai Kya believe that it takes a lot of courage for an actor to play a character that is crazy, twisted and complex. While Bobby celebrates the crazy side of a person, Keshav portrays whatever is perfect and normal. Director Prakash Kovelmudi says, “When we first heard the script, we knew that Bobby was a character that needed an actor who would go all out with unabashed madness. You need a certain edge in real life to pull off such a crazy, complex character. No one but Kangana (Ranaut) could’ve pulled this off. Rajkummar Rao as Keshav is equally flawless. He has played the character to the T. Both the actors have complimented each other’s madcap energy in this film, and the audience is surely in for a treat. It takes guts to go nuts.” The film follows two diametrically opposite characters, who lend their quirks to a thrilling storyline.

Producer Ekta Kapoor shares, “Kangana and Rajkummar are not just talented stars of today, their craziness matches ours. Both of them are gutsy and eager to step out of their comfort zones, and JudgeMentall Hai Kya has given them the perfect opportunity to do that.”

JudgeMentall Hai Kya, produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Shaailesh R Singh, releases on July 26.
